Google Insights for Search is also extremely useful in exploring competitive demand for services and for investigating the usage of keyphrase variations.  In the example below, the search demand for the terms “theme park” and “amusement park” are compared.

The terms have the same meaning, and the seasonal demand for information is evident as per the fall in demand as summer gives way into fall and the rise in demand as spring gives way into summer. Understanding the demand for products and services on a seasonal basis is incredibly useful information to vendors who depend on seasonal shopping behaviors.  With Insights for Search, you can confirm demand (or a lack thereof) for seasonally based products or services. Take a look at the demand for spring break information over the last four years, snow tires in the northeast, and Christmas decorations in the north west. And if you’re really looking to explore this tool’s capabilities, try analyzing the demand for words which have lots of synonyms or variations.

When you take a step back and really think about the research capability Insights provides for online retail, marketing, and trend spotting application, it’s really quite remarkable.  Kind of makes you wonder what kind of data Google keeps to iself.
