Even though this is technically just another URL shortening service, Bitly’s got a backbone, and that usually means there’s bigger plans for the company. Considering the service is relatively new and has yet to reach its full potential, I would imagine we can expect to see advances in the click metrics, geotargeting, and integration into web browsers (although the sidebar booklet is flippin’ sweet).

The Bitly blog is a running catalog of all the tools and features available to tweeters and social marketers.  It’s an excellent resource to stay up to date on the latest and greatest from the new URL shortening kid on the block.  Considering its rapid adoption by tweeters far and wide, it’s safe to say this service isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. For now…it’s all about experimentation and making the most from this emerging company.

I’d be curious to hear if anyone can list more than ten practical applications for this service UNRELATED to twitter.  Feel free to chime in with comments.

And watch out for those white whales.
