In case you missed the news from the Official Google Blog this morning, Google Chrome is now officially entering the operating system market – challenging windows and OSX in a technological era which is dominated by web focused users. This news doesn’t come as a total shocker to many Googlers, largely because Chrome’s success paved the way for a new era of computing technology – one which is exclusively focused on maximizing the web browsing experience.  It’s only logical the most “user centric” web company ever would take the plunge into developing a comprehensive web focused solution for personal computing.

In suit with the Chrome browser, Chrome OS is designed to accommodate the web browsing needs and demands of users…although Google engineers certainly took software, hardware, and OS security into consideration. According the post announcing the release:

Focusing on the “user experience” will certainly be the key component of Google’s success with this system. The bottom line is pretty clear – as more people migrate to the web in search of information, products, and services, they will need a functional solution which is as simple as it is safe.

We expect the open-source nature of the Chrome OS to create quite a stir following the launch. This could be the next linux – or it could be a total bomb if the open source community rejects it wholeheartedly. For the most part, people don’t like change, which may prevent the rapid adoption of the chrome OS. Windows and OSX may have their quirks, but they are still perfectly functional. Remember, most Americans don’t even know what a web browser is, let alone an operating system.

If we do see rapid adoption of the Chrome OS, it will be the result of an intense focus on providing a computing solution which is designed to accommodate the needs of an entire spectrum of users – ranging from the computer illiterate to internet junkie’s.

The project is far from done, and Google is actively seeking the help of the masses to bring the Chrome OS to life:

…but that doesn’t mean success isn’t right around the corner.

We’re keeping our fingers crossed.
