Google music search coming to a SERP near you
The official google blog broke the news yesterday that users will now be able to find and listen to their favorite music directly from the SERPs.Google Music Search comes just days after Social Search made its debut in Google Labs, signifying what may be the start of a cascade of new features from the Big G. As reported in Search Engine Land, Google is a bit late to the “music in the SERPs” game, as Yahoo already offers a music search feature packed with intuitive and user focused features. Whereas Google only allows you to hear previews (and a few full songs), Yahoo provides the songs in their entirety from their content partners.
Google Music Search enables users to find specific music from a search query as simple as a three word lyric. Results are displayed at the top of the results page featuring previews (as well as some full songs) from Google content partners (like myspace, pandora, imeem, lala, and ilike). The results also provide the option to buy the song from several online vendors while the music is playing in a pop up box.

Personally, I’m a huge fan of this new feature. It’s a fantastic compliment to universal search results, adding a much needed audio element to a video dominated universal search experience. Google Music Search bridges the gap between remembering a piece of a song you heard and locating the corresponding artist. It’s brilliant for discovering new music, having classics on hand, and enabling searchers to quickly and easily find tons of information on their favorite artists.
The feature, as indicated by the official google blog, will be appearing in search results nation wide over the next 24 hours.
