Five awesome link-bait resources

Linkbait - not for human consumptionThe great debate over the effectiveness of linkbait has been written ad nauseum.  There’s so much information on creating linkbait, effective linkbaiting strategies, and “how to” style articles circulating on the web, it would be totally counterproductive to write our own piece. So rather than reinventing the wheel, we decided to put together a list of resources we’ve utilized in crafting our own link bait mechanisms.

One piece of advice I would preface these resources with: It’s mission critical you develop linkbait with a specific demographic or comedic edge in mind.  Media which is shocking, entertaining, engaging, good for a quick laugh, or worthy of a head nod and smile as if to signify, “yep, you’re right on point” – is what it all comes down to.  Without a distinct edge or creative element, your linkbait will fall into the category of epic fail.

Be sure to run your idea past a few friends, test the waters, make sure you’ve got something which triggers a reaction, and if you’re real smart about it, premeditate the reaction you want to initiate.  Linkbait strategy isn’t easy to develop, but it can be effective if you take the time to clearly outline the goals for putting a piece of content on line with the direct intention of winning over an audience.

Here’s a quick shot list of five resources on creating effective link bait:
